The Omarama Experience
Our
Story
Omarama, which directly translates to 'Place of Light' in English, is one of the world's best mountain soaring destinations and internationally hailed as the 'Soaring Mecca'. The Omarama Gliding Club facilitates everything from basic training to advanced mountain soaring for experienced pilots wishing to become familiar with the area. We encourage pilots from all over the globe to come and visit our incredible location and spend some time exploring the Southern Alps from a birds' eye view.
The Omarama Gliding Club works in partnership with our local commercial operators Glide Queenstown and Kahu Soaring to help you enjoy a gliding experience that is tailored to your needs.

What we do
We have instructors available, and supply CFI/operational duties, with the ability for club members and GNZ affiliated members the opportunity to fly 7 days a week over the six months of New Zealand's peak soaring season.
The Omarama Gliding Club primarily operates from late September to early May, with the best times for the ultimate soaring window being mid from October to April.
